Lessons from E-ZPass IAG

According to the European Union Vice President, Commissioner for Transport Mr. Antonio Tajani, "A trip to Denmark from Portugal requires five or more On-Board Units on a vehicle's dashboard." On the other hand a trip from Virginia to Maine and all the way to Illinois only requires one transponder in a vehicle. This is because E-ZPass is interoperable in all 14 States.

Now the commission wants a single interoperable E.U. system within three years for trucks and buses and for passenger cars within five years.

"The European Electronic Toll Service will enable road users to easily pay tolls throughout the whole European Union thanks to one subscription contract with one service provider and one single on-board unit," Antonio Tajani said in a statement.
